Join us for a remix - which means - another week of discussion on the topic of how we interact with digital and analog tools. Were you not able to join last week? No problem, we have some notes to catch you up!
This week we're going to dive into the Analog/Digital divide. We'll look at how this shows up in how we process information, work, handle daily tasks, and even how it impacts our religious practice. And, we'll even have a chance to create and take home an analog companion :)
We live in a time when all the things we used to do in print and on paper can now be done in digital spaces. From writing a simple note to having AI help manage your schedule, from hobbies to online communities, from working at a desk with post-it notes and notepads to working at home on a computer all day, we can't escape the digital world.
But for some people, being "analog" - offline, using pen and paper, making things with their hands - is more than just resisting technology. For many people leaning into analog practices has much to do with how they process information, how they remember things, and how they feel about an experience.
It also shows up in our spiritual lives. Is virtual community real community? Is there a meaningful difference between reading lyrics on a screen or holding a hymnal? Does reading en eBook versus a print book change our interaction with the content?
There's also an aspect of how we remember and process things. Some research shows that typing information doesn't stick in your memory as well as writing it out with pen and paper. Does keeping a journal online work as well? Does jotting things on paper mean more or help you remember it better than using an app? How does writing impact how we think, brainstorm, and process things around us?
We'll wrestle with these and other questions this week. Please feel free to bring the tools that help you - your physical planner, a favorite app, or any other digital or analog tool that helps you through life. And, we'll take sometime to set up an analog tool that you can try out. We'll look at a commonplace notebook, a catch all book, mindmapping, and some different kinds of journals. You can pick a small notebook and supplies to take with you.
So please join us as we explore the differences between the analog and digital :) Hope to see you there!
