What we’re about
AI in Practice is a cross-functional community for AI experts and builders alongside the domain professionals they partner with—legal, compliance, finance, healthcare, defense, software, mission-driven organizations, and public-sector SMEs. We’re here to make real-world AI more effective by connecting the people who build systems with the people who steward outcomes, policy, and risk. Our conversations stay practical and plain-spoken, grounded in measurable impact and responsible use.
We’ll meet regularly through a mix of live discussions and occasional DC gatherings, often co-hosted with peer groups. The focus is simple: build out best practices together and talk candidly about what must be done to make AI successful in these domains—what to align on, what to avoid, and how to move from ideas to results. Sessions are open-minded welcoming; they prioritize learning, honest exchange, and useful takeaways over pitches. If you build, buy, or oversee AI and want to help shape what “AI in practice” looks like in this city, join us, suggest a topic, or raise your hand to co-lead a session.

Description:
Join for a hands-on session that will equip you with practical frameworks for applying AI to your PM work. Drawing from real experience using ChatGPT to maintain product velocity in a hectic, resource-constrained startup, Peter will introduce you to OpenAI's framework for identifying high-impact AI use cases—from eliminating repetitive tasks and overcoming skill bottlenecks to navigating ambiguous product decisions. You'll learn the six fundamental AI "skills" (content creation, research, coding, data analysis, ideation, and automation) and explore how to apply them to core PM workflows, such as competitive analysis, user research synthesis, PRD development, user story decomposition, and stakeholder communication. Through guided exercises using your own product challenges, you'll get hands-on experience with advanced features like projects, custom instructions, and tool-specific capabilities across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Microsoft Copilot. Leave with actionable techniques you can begin applying immediately, starter workflows to build from, and clear next steps for deepening your AI integration over time.
Note: While you can still learn from simply observing, we recommend having your model of choice ready to use. Some hands-on exercises may work best with a paid account (individual or team/enterprise) for either OpenAI ChatGPT, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, or Microsoft Copilot.
This event will be held at Amazon’s HQ2 in National Landing, Arlington. The event starts at 6pm and doors lock at 6:30pm. Please bring a photo ID that matches your registration name to check in with security. There is both a metro stop (Pentagon City, Crystal City) and parking garages within convenient walking distance. There is also some street parking available in the vicinity.3 attendees
