What we're about
We are a peer-based support group made of people with depression who meet weekly to support and encourage each other in our journey toward recovery.
Who is welcome at our group?
· Anyone who suffers from depression and wants to meet with people who know what it’s like. It is recommended that members also have a mental health professional to consult as we are a peer group and not qualified to make a diagnosis or suggest a course of treatment.
· Professionals active in the field are NOT allowed at our meetings, except with group approval.
What should members do at a meeting?
· Members have the right to share or listen. Please keep in mind:
o What is said in the room stays in the room. We do not talk about other members who are not present nor do we talk about members and their business outside the group.
o When you are listening to other members, please listen respectfully. If you have something you wish to say, please wait until that member is finished speaking. Do not start up side conversations while other members are talking.
o We are not medical professionals and so it is not our role to give advice to someone especially if it is unwanted. When you respond to a member, share similar experiences, and try to avoid telling people they “should” or “shouldn’t” do something. Also refrain from judging other members.
