Depression Overcome: Walk/Hike at Memorial Park
Details
Depression Overcome is a meetup group built around activities which bring together those suffering from depression and help ease their struggle. We work to host activities that have been shown to help improve symptoms of depression and anxiety like nature walks, physical movement, mindfulness, and social connection, all in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. Whether you’re new to group activities or have been looking for gentle ways to boost your well-being, come as you are and walk with us.
Research suggests that exercise can ease depression and anxiety by releasing mood-lifting brain chemicals, improving self-confidence, and offering healthy coping strategies for stress and negative thoughts. Regular physical activity is linked to reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety across several studies, and even moderate walking can contribute to these benefits. Additionally, spending time in natural settings like parks adds another layer of benefit: people who engage in nature-based walking report better moods, reduced stress, and stronger feelings of calm compared with spending time indoors or in urban environments.
We’ll be walking on a mostly flat, well-maintained route, the Main Loop (Seymour Lieberman Exercise Trail) at Memorial Park. This trail is ideal for a comfortable, leisurely walk and is suitable for all fitness levels. We’ll keep a relaxed pace, take breaks as needed, and enjoy the scenery together. The trail is 3 miles long and should take about an hour to complete. (Exact trail info: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/texas/seymour-lieberman-exercise-trail)
