We are delighted to extend an invitation to you for the first Derby Humanists formal meeting of the year, hosted by the new Derby Humanists steering group.
Our guest speaker, Maddy Goodall, Humanists UK's Heritage Coordinator, will deliver a lecture tailored to Derby's unique history. This event marks a significant milestone for our Local Group and we hope you can join us to celebrate our return to activity.
Join us to explore the lesser known stories of humanist activism in Derbyshire, tracing the bold steps taken by radicals, rationalists, and reformers in the fight for human rights. Uncover the lives and legacies of some of the city's most influential humanists, and how their commitment to reason, compassion, and social justice helped shape the cultural and political landscape of Derby.
From early advocates of free thought to modern champions of equality, discover how these visionary individuals made their mark on the pursuit of human dignity and rights, and consider what their legacy might mean to us today.
Your new Local Group team will be on hand to make introductions and will be running a short introduction to Humanists UK before the lecture. They will also aim to understand the areas of debate our members would enjoy in the future.
We will be serving tea, coffee, cake and biscuits from 18:15 to allow for some socialising before Maddy begins her lecture at 19:00.
