I am planning an event on 20th June at 2pm on Nottingham Market Square. It is part of something called The Kindness Receipt and this event is a social experiment to prove my hypothesis that the phrase "THANK YOU".... "THAT IS SO KIND OF YOU!!" makes people both happier and more altruistic.
I plan to flood the market square with 36 people holding signs with "THANK YOU"... on one side and "THAT IS SO KIND OF YOU!!" on the other. One small group of people will ask people away from and out of view of any of the signs 2 questions as a control group.
QUESTION 1: on a scale of 1-10 how happy do you feel right now?
QUESTION 2: on a scale of 1-10 how likely are you to feel like helping someone in need right now?
Another group will ask people who are leaving the square and have seen the signs the same two questions.
I am expecting that people who have seen the signs are both happier and more altruistic.
I am getting the day professionally filmed and I will be inviting the press. It promises to be a fun day for anybody who wants to show up for a bit and help spread the power of kindness.
