Today there are so many buzz-phrases and words floating around the insurance industry, is it time to take a step back for a moment to consider what is really happening in and around the industry? So much is changing the nature of the industry from how we conduct business in a digital economy from changing risks profiles to brand new risk opportunities to insurance and manage. Concepts such as risk listening and risk monitoring are new methods insurance companies are using to fundamentally change what was “loss control”. Consumers and businesses are now “always on and connected”. How we interact with customers is so different for our trillion-dollar industry and changes so rapidly……what we do today and how we interact changes in less than a year. Change has never happened at this speed. The world outside of insurance looks at our industry with skepticism with respect to innovate and remain relevant. Many organizations continue ask “where do we start?” and “how do we get unstuck”? Cindy Maike, VP of Industry Solutions and GM of Hortonworks will share her experiences and insights working with companies in the insurance industry.

As VP of Industry Solutions & GM Insurance, Cindy Maike is responsible for the insurance industry global strategy and customer executive engagement for Hortonworks. She works with customers and partners leveraging analytics for current day business growth and exploring the usage of new data sources to drive innovation in the evolving world of insurance. She has over 25 years of finance, consulting and advisory services experience in the insurance industry working with clients globally on their business strategy leveraging analytics and technology to further drive business results.

Cindy has deep industry knowledge in both claims and underwriting with a focus on the usage of analytics and data to enhance business outcomes. She has held business strategy, finance, consulting and research positions in the insurance industry. Cindy is also a CPA.

She is passionate about solving business problems and eternally believes in process improvement and strongly believes that today’s next generation business intelligence in the form of advanced analytics will revolutionize the insurance industry. Cindy frequently speaks at industry events on the value of business analytics and the evolution of insurance in a connected world.

Bill Preachuk
Solutions Engineer

Bill has over 2+ decades of experience doing all forms of data-related work - Development, Database Administration, Kimball methodology Data Warehousing, Server/Security Assessments, Performance Tuning, System Architecture. Specialization in the Ingestion, Data Design, and BI Analytics of the HDP (Hortonworks Data Platform) ecosystem: Hive, Pig, Sqoop, NiFi, Data Movement, ETL Offload and Data Archival.

He particularly enjoys educating and presenting on Hadoop, Data, and DBA-related topics to the wide variety of User Groups he has been associated with. These include Analytics, Database (PASS) & Hadoop User Groups.
