Excel - Preventing Spreadsheet "Spaghetti" For The Analyst
Details
Despite the growing maturity of business intelligence platforms, MS Excel remains the main tool of choice for reporting and analytics in many organizations. Bad habits like creating Excel "spaghetti" solutions that abuse formula generation (lookups/if..then..else, etc), formatting overload, and manual steps result in inefficient, multi-megabyte spreadsheets that frustrate analysts with time consuming activities that have the potential to be error-prone.
In this session Rob Garelick will:
- Understand the primary outcomes and causes that result from that from Excel “spaghetti” solutions.
- Discuss good disciplines coupled with Power Query and Power Pivot to be part of the Analyst’s toolbelt.
- Review realistic business cases that demonstrate how Excel Power Query and Power Pivot can be applied along with other tools within Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, SharePoint/OneDrive). Together, they complement each other in aspects of data retrieval, cleanup, consolidation, time intelligences, dynamic formulas (e.g. DAX), and automation.
