About us
Are you new to the area? Did you recently return but your friends no longer live here? Have you just been too busy with work to make friends?
This group is for anyone -- single, married, divorced, attached -- anyone who would like to meet other people in the area, make friends, and do some activities. This is not a singles group, though single people are welcome. It's not a hookup group. Just people who would like the opportunity to meet and make friends and perhaps do fun activities.
I envision activities as simple as going out to different restaurant, patios, kayaking somewhere locally, exploring museums, enjoying a picnic lunch somewhere, going to museums, taking a tour of local wineries, etc. The options are limitless and will give us a chance to explore Des Moines as well.
Let's explore Des Moines and its surrounding areas, meet interesting people and have a little fun!
There are some immuno-compromised members and others who spend time with those who are vulnerable, children, or unable to receive the vaccine. With respect for them and the CDC recommendations, you must be fully vaccinated to participate in these meetups. Proof of vaccination for each attendee must be provided at the meetup.
Please note: there is a free 60 day trial period; after that there is $10 annual dues to help offset the costs of using the Meetup site. Using the site is not cheap, but it is useful and allows everyone to participate and communicate with each other.
Who's ready to make new friends?

Good Eatins' (Southern Soul Food)
Good Eatins', 5418 Douglas Ave, Des Moines, IA, US5418 Douglas Ave, across from the Dairy Queen (used to be Wasabi Chi)
Good Eatins restaurant
This is a new restaurant in the past year with a limited website, so I'm including food reviews for some context. It states that most meals are $15 with two sides, The food review group has had several people give it a good thumbs up, so thought we would try it. Dining area closes at 7 p.m. FYI They do a banging take out business.REVIEW #1: "Our daughter turned 17 this week and she wanted to go to the restaurant called Good Eatins. We called before hand and had our tabled already ready for us.
Check it out! The food was great and came out super fast. The staff were patient and helpful.
Pretty much everything is $15 for the meals - comes with 2 sides. The 2 meat meal you pick any meat on the menu and 2 sides for $23 (in the picture is meatballs, rotisserie chicken with a side of mac&cheese and spaghetti, my husband got catfish and wings for the 2 meats). Our 9 year old got the catfish and loved it with 2 sides of mac and cheese lol. The 11 year old just picked a side of mac and cheese ($4) and he said it was the best mac& cheese he has ever had. Our daughter in the picture has turkey strips with corn bread and another side I can't remember but it was a huge plate of food could of been a shareable plate.REVIEW #2: We tried Good Eatin’s Southern Food last night. We went shortly after 5 PM so I figured we’d be able to get in and out quickly. However, it took a while for them to bring out our food. It would have been nice if they brought out the appetizer first, but they brought everything out together. The food was amazing. We had the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls, which were to die for. I had the catfish with macaroni & cheese and potato salad. It was soooo good! My husband had chicken wings with the jalapeño corn and collard greens and said it was very good and filling. We were so full we couldn’t try dessert. Portions were 100%!!! The cornbread was good but could’ve used some butter & honey.
Review #3: My wife and I just tried a restaurant and I need y'all to RUN to Good Eatins Soul Food (5418 Douglas Ave, Des Moines, IA 50310). The fried chicken was crispy and delicious and the catfish, too! I'm a greens SNOB and the greens were FIRE!

I could see the greens being too spicy for some, but it is packed with flavor. Potato salad had really good flavor and the jalapeño corn was awesome, too! I would've like it thicker and more cheese, but that's me, but it still tasted great!
How did I take so long to go there?!
The owner is an absolute GEM and so sweet. She works herself ragged, but she pours her soul into it and you can taste it!
If you like soul food or haven't tried any before this is the spot!4 attendees

## About Our Restaurant
Splash Seafood Oyster Bar & Grill is Iowa and Des Moines' premiere Seafood Restaurant. Our award-winning wine list is perfectly paired to compliment our extensive seafood selections. Our jet fresh seafood is flown in daily from coast to coast, including seaports in Boston, Seattle, Key Largo, and Honolulu.
The idea for Splash was given birth on the water in 1998 by an avid Key's fisherman, Bruce Gerleman. His fishing expeditions took him all over the Florida Keys where he discovered exotic meals cooked by the 'locals'.
"I am committed to bringing the same attention to detail that I accomplished in so many of my historic renovations to the food and service at Splash. My plan has always been to bring the best of the Islands back to Iowa to share with my guests."Inspired by the varied styles and flavors of the food, he began gathering recipes from Key West, Islamorada, and Key Largo. In the tradition of this island-style cooking, Splash was created.
Local artist and designer, Saley Nong, was commissioned to interpret undersea life in a mural art form. Her colorful and playful, abstract work is a striking contrast to the 9 large saltwater aquariums full of beautiful coral and tropical ocean fish.Local artist and designer, Saley Nong, was commissioned to interpret undersea life in a mural art form.
