NOTE: This brand new Mexican restaurant is family owned and run and is their 2nd restaurant. They have a smaller Faustinos in Beaverdale. This new restaurant has been getting RAVE reviews. I'll post a few from the food lover's group. They have vegetarian options with shrimp, avocado, chili relleno, etc.

  1. New restaurant alert. Faustinos breakfast and tacos just opened. Next to Brazil Terra Grill same shopping center as Fresh Thyme in WDM. They’ve only been since September 2. Now what makes them different? They open at 7:30 for breakfast. They have a pretty extensive breakfast menu. I got the asada burrito… full of meat and grilled onions and they give you grilled onions and lime on the side. It was a decent meal got that and a bottle coke for a little over $13. The star of the show was the different sauces you can use. I got the mango sauce 11 out of 10. Man it made the burrito sweet and savory. They also had different degrees of hot sauce which good and I didn’t think too spicy. I’m gonna try breakfast next week.
  2. Hands down the most authentic Mexican food in Iowa. Faustinos Breakfast & Tacos in West Des Moines is a true hidden gem that everyone needs to try. From the moment I opened my meal, I knew it was going to be special. I ordered the alambre and it was out of this world. The meat was tender, juicy, and seasoned perfectly. The mix of peppers and onions added just the right amount of flavor and crunch, and the melted cheese on top tied it all together in the most satisfying way. It was rich, flavorful, and hearty without being too heavy, and every single bite made me want to go back for more.
On the side, the grilled onions and potatoes were simple but cooked just right, and the tortillas were warm and fresh. It felt like a real homemade meal that had been put together with care.
I also tried their strawberries and cream agua fresca and it might be the best drink I have ever had with a meal. It was creamy, sweet, and refreshing all at once, like the perfect blend of dessert and drink. It paired beautifully with the alambre and really made the meal unforgettable.
What makes Faustino’s stand out is not just the flavor but the authenticity. The food tastes like it came straight from a Mexican kitchen, not an Americanized version of it. The portions are generous, the ingredients taste fresh, and you can tell that everything is made with love and pride.
If you are in West Des Moines, or even if you have to drive a bit to get there, Faustino’s is worth the trip. This is comfort food at its best, the kind of meal that makes you slow down and enjoy every bite. I cannot wait to go back and try more of their menu.
  3. I have already reviewed Faustinos Breakfast & Tacos before, but after trying different dishes I had to share again because the food is just that good.
This time I ordered the steak skillet, and it was unforgettable. The base was a bed of golden potatoes smothered in creamy queso, rich and comforting with every bite. On top was tender, juicy steak cooked perfectly so it melted in your mouth. The skillet was finished with fluffy eggs and served with warm toast on the side, creating a breakfast that was hearty, flavorful, and deeply satisfying.
We also shared the strawberry and Nutella crepes, and they were simply amazing. The crepes were light and delicate, filled with smooth sweet cream that paired perfectly with the fresh strawberries. A drizzle of Nutella and a dusting of powdered sugar brought everything together, making each bite feel like a little indulgence. They were the perfect sweet balance to the richness of the skillet.
What stood out the most is that the quality of the food reminded me of meals I had while in Mexico. Everything tasted authentic and fresh. This place continues to impress with food that is both comforting and authentically made.
  4. Ok, ok… I went back. Don’t judge me, it’s basically edible crack at this point. This round I tackled the Chilaquiles Divorciados and OMG… salsa verde on one side, salsa roja on the other, it’s like if your taste buds got shared custody and both parents showed up with gifts. Add in that fresh queso fresco, beans, eggs, and juicy chicken (you can pick steak too, but I was watching my figure) and yeah… it didn’t stand a chance. Oh, and yes, I shamelessly ordered the crepes again. Zero regrets.
