Des Plaines Public Library Events for Adults

Read The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak and then come discuss it with us at the Des Plaines Public Library.

It is 1974 on the island of Cyprus. Two teenagers, from opposite sides of a divided land, meet at a tavern in the city they both call home. The tavern is the only place that Kostas, who is Greek and Christian, and Defne, who is Turkish and Muslim, can meet, in secret, hidden beneath the blackened beams from which hang garlands of garlic, chilli peppers and wild herbs.

Copies of these books are available at the Readers Services desk on the 3rd floor of the library. Registration required. The book club will meet in the Commons on the third floor of the Des Plaines Public Library @ 10:00am on February 10th.
