#4 - the UX of finding work
Details
Meet likeminded UX professionals over coffee and discuss ways to use design to improve the way that we find work & hire.
The Problem: Finding good work has never felt more dehumanising. AI screens your CV before a person sees it. Job posts ghost you. Design challenges eat your weekends. The process that's supposed to connect talented people with meaningful work is broken - so what would a better one look like?
For our fourth design impact lab session, we’ll be discussing how simple interventions could improve the process of finding work, from both a hiring and applicant/provider perspective.
The Flow (Sunday 27th September 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM):
- 10:30 | Coffee & Intros (Scooter Caffe Waterloo): We’ll meet for coffee to kick things off. You'll meet other attendees and discuss the problem space. Please buy a drink to support the independent cafe.
- 10:45 | Conversation Game: We'll break up into small groups of 4-5 and play a Japanese conversation game designed to encourage you to discuss this topic in a fun way.
- 11:15 | Discussion: After the game, we'll break up into pairs and exchange UX intervention ideas.
- 11:30 | Free Discussion: We'll wrap up with free discussions about UX, design, third spaces or whatever is on your mind.

Why Join?
If you’re a designer or researcher who wants to use your skills for more than just conversion, come say hi.
It’s a chance to meet like-minded people and consider how design can solve universal human problems.
Who is this for?
Our events are for UX designers, researchers and other strategic and creative thinkers who are passionate about using their skills for social good, not just profit. Please note that this is not a networking event, or a place to find a job.
Who are the hosts?
Max is a London based design researcher. Until recently he was based in Tokyo, where he ran a small design agency and spent over 10 years as a meetup organizer. He's exploring ways to bring designers together to use our skills to work on meaningful problems.
Katherine is a London based UX designer. After pivoting to design late in her career herself, she now helps professionals design their next career moves. She also brings her experience hosting engaging events for designers, including Friends of Figma in London.
*This event is being advertised on multiple sites, so the actual number of attendees will be different to what appears on meetup.
