Generative research offers us a wealth of methods (for example, in-depth interviews) for informing our design process. But it also invites a critical methodological question: whom do we include?

In this month’s meetup, Andrew Maier will explore strategic approaches to recruiting for generative design research. Starting with the basics, he’ll share the story of a time when he and an organization tackled recruiting head on, resulting in a more strategic, sustainable recruiting effort.

We'll cover:

  • The basics of recruiting (for example, target groups and honoraria)
  • How to develop, pilot, and refine screeners
  • How to scope and plan for continuous participant recruiting

AGENDA
6:00-6:30 - Networking
6:30-7:30 - Presentation and Q&A
7:30-8:00 - Wrap-up

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This talk is for people who are ready to “get out of the building” and talk to their customers, users, etc. If you’ve outsourced recruiting in the past, this talk will help illustrate (to some extent) what you’ve foregone by not having done it yourself.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Andrew Maier is an independent Design Researcher working in Washington, DC. He helps teams identify and address the needs of their users, and to kickstart and operationalize their design research efforts.

OTHER THINGS OF NOTE
We never want money to be the reason you can’t attend a Design Research DC event. If you truly cannot afford a ticket, email andrew@userfriendlest.com and we’ll get you in — no questions asked.

All attendees are expected to adhere to our code of conduct. Please review it here: https://goo.gl/Q2WaHd

This month we’re at a new venue! Please don’t go to our old location.

This is the first meetup in which we're offering the option to attend remotely. If you'd like to do so, please buy a ticket and then email andrew@userfriendlest.com for a Zoom link.
