Talk one: Designing your design career
The world needs design like never before, but most of the skills we look for in designers are less than a decade old. The number of titles, skills, companies, and teams that we can choose from seems endless.
Every designer is different, and there's more choice than ever before. So why aren't we putting more time into designing our own careers?
I've spent the last six months trying to understand why. I'll show you what I've learned, my mistakes along the way, and what I think an answer might look like to the age-old question: what kind of a designer am I?
Speaker: Jonny Burch
Jonny is a designer, entrepreneur and founder of Make and Grow, a company focused on helping people in tech to build fantastic careers.
A year ago, Jonny quit his job as a design manager at Deliveroo to build his own company. His product, Progression, helps designers and design teams to define their skills and interests, allowing everyone to know where they stand and where to go.
He’s already got a number of London tech’s most celebrated design teams trialling the product and has huge plans for a future where designers, engineers and all other disciplines can build their careers with the same care that they build their products.
You can check out Jonny’s website at jonnyburch.com, his product Progression and also subscribe to his podcast. He’s also on Twitter and everywhere else at @jonnyburch.
