Improv Meets Design II: Ideation for a Local Non-Profit Through an Improv Lens

On October 12th we’ll be bringing back improv comedy once again to Design Thinking Cincinnati! After the great success of our improv + design thinking event in November 2014, we are so excited to be working with talented improv performer Bobby Moran again!

We will be introducing a new format for this event, though it will be a blend of some of the sessions we have held in the past. At this event, not only will we be practicing improv, but we will be using it as a tool to ideate solutions for a challenge provided to us by the Cincinnati non-profit, Indigo Hippo.

Indigo Hippo is an art supply thrift store in OTR which encourages creative reuse through providing low-cost, second-hand art supplies to the community. This part of their mission is very apparent, however, they feel challenged when conveying the other part of their mission: Using creativity to normalize different mental and emotional capacities and bring to light the tools that we all have to support ourselves and strengthen our connections to community. We are really looking forward to working with Indigo Hippo executive director Alisha Budkie and her team as we ideate solutions.

As Bobby guides us through improv activities specifically planned with Indigo Hippo’s challenge in mind, we’ll use these creative techniques to ideate ways that this non-profit could better promote and convey the second part of their mission. Promoting mental health awareness is such a great cause and it definitely encourages empathy. In addition, we’ll be having some fun doing improv and coming up with ideas in a free-thinking, unbiased environment. That’s what design thinking is all about! Hope to see you there!
