Speaker's bio
Silvia Barbero gained her European Ph.D. in Production Systems and Industrial Design at the Politecnico di Torino with a visiting period at Lund University (Sweden).
She is now an Associate Professor in Design at the Department of Architecture and Design of Politecnico di Torino and is vice-coordinator of the College of Design.
She teaches at Politecnico di Torino:

  • The courses "Environmental Product Requirements" for the bachelor's degrees in Design and Communication and in Sustainable Design for the Food System.
  • "Open Systems" for the Master's degree in Systemic Design; and "Systemic Design for Territorial Development" for the Doctorate in Management, Production, and Design.

Since 2018, Silvia has been elected president of the Systemic Design Association (an international non-profit registered in Norway). She founded and is the scientific responsible for Sys – Systemic Design Lab at Politecnico di Torino. She is responsible for several competitive research projects at the European (H2020, Erasmus+, Interreg Europe, EIT), national (PNRR: PE11 MICS and CN Agritech), and regional levels. Her research focuses on systemic design for territorial valorisation and the definition of local circular economies. Silvia is the author of books on Ecodesign and many scientific articles and proceedings.
