We are excited to invite you to the relaunch of our Design Thinking Toronto monthly meetups starting with our first on Saturday, October 1st. Beyond introducing you to design thinking, we are bringing in Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to present you with a real-world design challenge that you will have the opportunity to explore and design real-world solutions for. You can expect a fun, engaging and impactful session to test out new ideas and connect with like-minded people.

OPPORTUNITY:

The Toronto International Film Festival, known originally as the "Festival of Festivals", was founded in 1976. Since then, TIFF has evolved into to a global brand and charitable cultural organization with a mission to transform the way people see the world through film.

To achieve the mission, TIFF opened a new headquarters called TIFF Bell Lightbox at the intersection of King St and John Street. This building is a cultural hub that offers year-round programming, five cinemas showing new releases, free screenings, a film reference library, exhibitions and unique fund raising events. Now that TIFF has settled into the building, there is a great opportunity to re-imagine the “accessible” spaces as a destination the local community and visitors come explore, play and meet-up.

We want them to say “Meet me at TIFF Bell Lightbox”.

So HOW MIGHT WE make the TIFF Bell Lightbox an always-on community destination?

Creative Commons

Design Thinking Toronto is a community organization that aims to educate people on design thinking through hands-on experience with real world opportunities presented by real organizations in the community.

To provide attendees with a diverse range of experiences and ability to make real world impact, design challenges are curated with partner organizations in both non-profit and for-profit sectors.

To foster an atmosphere that supports the the unrestricted exchange of ideas and breakthrough design solutions, all concepts and designs generated at the Meet-ups will belong under the Creative Commons license.

Meet-ups are under a Creative Commons license and are thus able to be pro shareable, remix-able, and reusable for commercial and non-commercial use.

It is up to the individual organizations to follow through with implementation and refinement of ideas and to connect directly with participants if they choose to do so.
