Learn to Play West African Djembe Music
Join us at Centennial Commons in Royal Oak for a co-creative afternoon of rhythm, community, and traditional West African djembe music.
This interactive lesson is facilitated by passionate students who have studied with experienced teachers in both the U.S. and Guinea, West Africa.
You'll learn:

  • Basic djembe playing techniques
  • Traditional West African rhythms
  • The oral histories and cultural context behind the music
  • How to play together as a percussive ensemble

No experience necessary. Beginners are welcome.
Whether you're new to drumming or already have experience, this event offers a fun and welcoming environment to connect through rhythm and community

### Drum Rentals

Limited djembe rentals available ($10)
Only 3 drums are available to rent, so advance registration is recommended. Drum rentals must be reserved at least 2 hours before the event on african-drumming.eventbrite.com

Parking available in the 11 Mile Road Parking Garage or in metered spaces along the road on 2nd St or Troy St
