Intro to Machine Learning & Use Cases
Details
Machine learning is a field of computer science that uses statistical techniques to give computer systems the ability to learn - to progressively improve performance on specific tasks - with data and without explicit programming to perform those functions. Its a branch of artificial intelligence based on the idea that systems can learn from data, identify patterns and make decisions with minimal human intervention. Some recognizable examples of machine learning applications include:
- The self-driving Google car
- Online recommendation offers such as those from Amazon
- Fraud detection
To help us gain an understanding of "machine learning in the game of work" Paul Hindelang, President of Results Systems Corporation, will provide highlights of the last 50 years in machine learning including the early days with computers in the auto industry, the pioneer work with connected vehicles, and a look at emerging applications of voice assistance.
The event is free to attend but advance registration is required via Meetup. Refreshments will be served courtesy of our host/sponsor, RIIS ( http://riis.com/ ). Free parking is available.
Mobile Monday Detroit is being sponsored by the Mobile Technology Association of Michigan (http://gomobilemichigan.org/) and RIIS (http://riis.com/).
SPEAKER:
Paul Hindelang, President, Results Systems Corporation
Paul Hindelang is a Michigan Tech electrical engineer graduating in 1968, the year of HAL from "2001: Space Odyssey". His career has taken him on a journey exploring digital technology from paper tape loading of the first industrial machines to automated methods for proposal generation and human resource management. Over the years, Paul has created/owned a number of engineering, manufacturing and service businesses and most importantly - enjoyed many entrepreneurial business experiences. Inspiring "Personal Leadership for Results" is his hallmark. In his consulting and speaking, Paul applies technology to leverage human potential - never forgetting that ultimately, the machine is the servant, not the master. He is broadly certified and licensed in engineering, quality systems, logistics, business and financial services.
