Focused Workshop: Atlantis/Ancient Civilizations

Details
Hello science fiction and fantasy writers!
This week, we're having another workshop at Justin's house. As usual, first-timers are welcome; don't feel weird about going to a stranger's house -- just come in and go with the flow.
This workshop focuses on myths and worldbuilding, specifically using the legend of Atlantis as a reference point.
Atlantis's folklore has inspired stories of ancient technology, magic, wonder, and tragedy throughout most of humanity's recorded history, striking a universal curiosity about what came before. Some stories claim it's still an underwater civilization, others believe it was an inland city with unmatched technology, and others believe it never even existed. `
This workshop isn't about what you personally believe (but that's important, too). Instead, it's about what could've happened in your world based on the themes, rules, and magic/science of your world.
The Assignment
Provide a 1-2 page explanation or a presentation describing the story of Atlantis or another ancient civilization in the world of your story. If you are writing a story where Earth doesn't exist, such as a high fantasy or high science fiction story, tell the story of a similar ancient civilization of your own choice/creation.
While you can cover any details you want, consider the following questions:
- Where and when did the civilization exist?
- What aspects of the society differ from what exists today?
- Did the civilization have a unique technology or form of magic?
- What contributed to the civilization's downfall? What do people think happened?
- Did people survive? Where did they go?
- How does the civilization or its themes relate to your greater narrative?
If you're presenting, please keep your presentation under 10 minutes. If no immediate ideas come to mind, feel free to present any type of ancient civilization theory, even if it's not in your universe.
The first 15 minutes of the meeting will be dedicated to saying hello and waiting for latecomers.
We're looking forward to yet another constructive workshop. Visit our Discord Server to learn more and get in touch.
