Speed Run: Finish Your Story (Focused Workshop)
Details
Hello science fiction and fantasy writers!
This week, we're having another focused workshop at Justin's house. As usual, first-timers are welcome; no need to feel weird about going to a stranger's house -- just come in and go with the flow.
This time, we are going to do an exercise on the spot where we each draft the basic plot points toward the end of our own story or novel.
You don't have to "turn in" any pre-written homework this time, but I suggest preparing by having a story in mind and jotting down some idea of what happens toward the end.
The goal of our session will be twofold:
- To practice the puzzle-solving aspect of actually concluding a plotline. This is a skill we amateur writers tend to neglect, as it's far easier to stay bogged down in the worldbuilding and the early chapters.
- To overcome analysis paralysis. The speed run aspect of the exercise will force us to let go of perfectionism and come up with answers for how our story could end.
