Ethereum 2.0: The Road to Scalability & Usability

Details
Blockchain technology has made an impact on the world, there is no denying it. But is it here to stay? Well, first we need to tackle some challenges surrounding the blockchain trilemma.
Coined by Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, the term contends that at a fundamental level, blockchains can only achieve two out of three of the following traits: security, decentralization, and scalability. The upcoming Serenity release in the Ethereum roadmap, also referred to as Ethereum 2.0, includes three major updates to the project that aim to strike just the right balance between the aforementioned properties.
Shay Zluf, from the Prysmatic Labs team that is working with the core team building the Ethereum 2.0 protocol, will go under the hood of this upcoming release.
Tackling scalability is important, but we must solve usability as well. The Portis team has a vision - to redefine blockchain UX and bring decentralized applications to the masses (https://portis.io).
Sharing that vision is Yoav Weiss, TabooKey’s CTO. TabooKey created the Gas Stations Network, which lets the owners of decentralized apps sponsor their users gas fees, which eliminates a huge pain point in the UX. In his talk, Yoav will explain how it’s possible to do that without compromising decentralization, by using game theory.
🍕 We will meet at 18:00 for pizza and beers, with the talks themselves kicking off at 18:30 🍕
⛓ Shay Zluf - ETH 2.0 ⛓
Scalability is a big problem with the Ethereum network. Shay, who's working with the Ethereum core team on the next version of Ethereum, will share how concepts like sharding and beacon chains will help solve those difficult challenges.
When moving from Proof-of-Work to Proof-of-Stake the resource-intensive action of mining is replaced by the act of validating. In this talk, Shay will explain validator responsibilities in the coming Eth 2.0 beacon chain. He will go into details on slashing risks and the rewards that are tied to being a validator in the current stage 0 of ETH 2.0. Shay will also guide us through the few steps you need to take in order to become a Prysmatic labs client validator.
Shay Zluf spent several years working across a number of blockchain projects. For the last few months, he is proud to be a part-time contributor in the Prysmatic Labs team (https://prysmaticlabs.com/). For two years before that, he led the development team of Synereo into creating a social platform with a great user interface, which hides the complexities of its underlying crypto technology. Shay was one of the founding members of Lazooz - a decentralized ride-sharing platform created in 2012 and has been an "Etherian" since its beginning.
⛽️ Yoav Weiss - 1-800-Ethereum: decentralized meta-transactions ⛽️
Bringing DApps to the masses by making web3 as easy as web2. We're solving the biggest dapp onboarding UX problem - the need to acquire ETH before getting started. The Gas Stations Network (EIP-1613, https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/blob/master/EIPS/eip-1613.md) introduces decentralized meta-transactions, letting decentralized applications sponsor their users' gas fees in a decentralized fashion.
Yoav Weiss (https://twitter.com/yoavw), veteran hacker, co-founder & CTO of TabooKey (https://www.tabookey.com/). Previously founded MobileSpaces, a virtualization company acquired by Pulse Secure. Started his career at the Israeli intelligence community, then joined Check Point as one of its first employees. Over the past 25 years, Yoav invented and developed security technologies used by Intel, ARM, McAfee, government agencies and others. Yoav is also committed to building the Ethereum ecosystem through the Gas Stations Network, and other decentralized infrastructure projects.
