Inside Chrome Security (Cyber Tuesday Event)

Details

Hello folks! It's been a while. I hope you're all keeping well. We're still here, just been heads down and distracted with work, so Bash has taken a bit of a hiatus.

However, we do have an event to announce, although it's not actually a Bash event but rather an episode in the ongoing 'Cyber Tuesday' event run by our good friends at Vertical Structure. But it's such an important one that we are working together on delivering and promoting it.

If you don't already know Vertical Structure but work in software, value security and want a partner to keep you honest, then do check them out. We have been partnering with Simon and his team for years on a wide range of security-related work including co-authoring and delivering a variety of security courses - they are a genuinely great local company (and I don't give praise easily).

We at Instil and VS share the same ethos, to build software that is secure by design and to instil a security-first mindset in our people. And it's to that end that we have the pleasure of having the Director of Chrome Security, Andrew Whalley, join us for a fireside chat at the next Cyber Tuesday event, on 14th February 2023.

Andrew is a Co Down native who has lived and breathed security for nearly 20 years. Prior to heading up all aspects of security on Chrome, he worked on platform security on Apple iOS and as a cryptographic consultant into the UK government.

At this event we will explore how Google engineers security into one of the complex products on the planet. We will explore everything from testing, to automation, culture and staying ahead of the game. And we hope to draw lessons that we can all apply to our engineering organisations.

Andrew lives in San Francisco thus the slightly awkward 5.30pm time slot. If you don't want to ruin your Valentine's Day don't fret, we will be recording the event. And if you are able to attend, there will be a live forum to ask questions. We can't promise that we will get them all answered, but we'll try our best :)

You can register for the event here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cybertuesday-tickets-416765826807. Note that you will need to supply your email address as part of the registration. Once registered you will be sent a calendar invite with a Zoom link for the event.

Really hope you can make this one.
