DevBP #1: Lessons from the Trenches

Details
Join us for the very first DevBP meetup, Budapest's new software engineering community! We're kicking off with two great talks on product development and engineering best practices:
How to Build a Great Product (and Still Fail)
with András "Draven" Fincza - XUND
Despite being a developer and later an engineering leader at successful companies, I took a brave leap into entrepreneurship. This short but intense journey taught me invaluable lessons. Follow the story of creating an AI-powered platform for live sports broadcasting, built iteratively in a truly agile way, with real-world testing from the start. In just one year, we delivered a flexible product that adapted to different business models and was reliable enough to perform without major issues in the field. People loved what we created, yet despite this success, it still failed. What happens when building a great product isn’t enough?
Join this story to learn key lessons in product development and avoid the same mistakes on your own journey.
Why Planning is Still the Core of Great Engineering
with Ákos Kapui - Shapr3D
Engineering planning, especially through design documents, remains a foundation of high-quality engineering organizations. Yet in many others, it’s often sidelined. In today’s world of agility and rapid development, senior leaders may see architectural planning as a time-consuming and unnecessary step. To an extent, they’re right—engineering design is a complex and difficult process that can easily lose focus. However, when done properly, planning through design documentation delivers immense value that would otherwise be unreachable.
In my talk, I’ll dive into the process, the common pitfalls we face at Shapr3D, and share examples of successful engineering projects that show the undeniable benefits of thoughtful planning.

After the presentations, we'll have group discussions to dive deeper into the topics.
This English-language event will be held at the Shapr3D office, where we'll provide snacks and drinks to fuel conversations. Arrival is from 17:30 at the office.
Whether you're an experienced coder or just starting out, come learn and connect with other tech enthusiasts. Don't miss this chance to be part of something new and exciting in Budapest's tech scene. See you there!
