It's hard for hackathons to rise above the noise these days, but HackInteractive has a compelling focus on education and proceeds will benefit CampInteractive, a great NY-based org that introduces inner-city, at-risk youth to the creative power of technology.

We're excited to participate, it'll be this coming weekend at General Assembly. The event has cool prizes and great sponsorship from Google, Pearson, Ebay, 10gen, and others. reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian will be the event MC and bit.ly's CTO Pete Miron is one of the organizers.

We'd love to see you there any friends/colleagues might be interested in participating, pls forward along!

Thanks,
Oliver

Issues:

Unusually Compelling Learning Experiences

How can we create a learning experience in an area of interest (e.g., programming, design, math, science, history) that immediately engages a student deeply and keeps them coming back for more?

Parent-Teacher Connection

Many parents and teachers don't know how best to engage with each other to support a student's development. What tools or experiences could help solve this problem?

English Language Learner Experiences

Many ELL students face a challenging path in schools today from the moment they enter--schools may not understand their abilities or know how to serve their needs, parents may face a language barrier, etc.  What tools, services, or experiences could be transformative for these learners?

Teacher Evaluations?

Many parents and students enter the school year knowing very little about the instructor that will be working with them for the durration of the year.  What tools can be created to cross evaluate teachers and faculty, and inform students and parents?
