About us

/* The texts are in English so to not exclude non-German-speakers, but there's no pre-set language for the meetups, just like there's no pre-set program :-). */

/* Die Texte sind auf Englisch, damit nicht-Deutschsprachler nicht ausgeschlossen werden, aber bei den Meetups gibt es keine »offizielle« Sprache, so wie es auch kein offizielles Programm gibt :-). */

TL;DR
Casual hangout for software / hardware developers. No pre-set program, no pitches, no stress :-).

Current Format (it might change in the future, let's see how people like it):
A meetup is 45 minutes long, enough to get 1-2 coffees (or tea or chocolate milk or water). It will take place either in the morning (e.g. 8:30) or in the afternoon (e.g. 15:00) and is explicitly not open end, so you can plan your day accordingly :-). It will take place in a »neutral« setting, i.e. outside an office / working space.

Who it's for:
It's for software or hardware developers and > 50% of your current work time should be for actual programming / developing, such as in Java, PHP, C++, Ruby, Javascript, Go, Swift... and so on.

Background:
The idea came when after a Barcamp I had a really nice time chatting with 4-5 developers I didn't know before, and we were bouncing ideas off of each other just for the sake of it. We were also able to dig deeper into the tech stack and everyone was able to contribute from their tech point of view, be it an iOS developer at a startup, a freelance PHP developer or a DB developer at a hospital.

Many tech meetups are often 2+ hour events with at least 1 hour of presentation. You hardly get to meet new people afterwards. It's often difficult to dive deeper into technology as well, because often only a part of the audience is doing actual software / technical development. And I've been to (and heard of) tech meetups, where half the people were recruiters looking to fill developer positions or biz dev people looking for developers to implement their ideas.

Those meetups are fine and some are actually really fun, but I do miss having a developers-only hangout where we can go deeper into technology and just have an open discussion on tech stuff and development.

What's with the name?
It's inspired by Jerry Seinfeld's »Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee« (http://comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com/) :-).
