Details

/dev/haag is a monthly meetup in The Hague that aims to bring together coders, hackers, artists, designers, UX specialists and other 'makers' from The Hague and beyond (more: http://www.devhaag.nl/about/ ). Doors open 16h30, talks start 17h.

This meetup will about geographical information systems and the web. If you're interested in mapping (open) data on the web using OGC-compliant (Open Geospatial Consortium) products and/or javascript libraries like d3.js, then this is the meetup for you.

This meetup is curated by @mj_kallen (https://twitter.com/mj_kallen)

The program is as follows:

  • "OGC products and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute" by Maarten Plieger from the KNMI

In late 2012, the KNMI has launched a new repository with open meteorological data ( http://data.knmi.nl ). In the background, they have been working on various related projects such as the ADAGUC web viewer and a way to provide time series data through web services. Maarten will give you an introduction to OGC-compliant products and he will demonstrate some of the work that the KNMI is doing in the area of web mapping and web services.

  • Short Break

Drink beer and eat Hamka's.

Simeon will demonstrate some of the latest tools and libraries for web mapping. In particular he will demonstrate how you can use the PDOK (Publieke Dienstverlening Op de Kaart: http://www.pdok.nl ) maps (i.e. WFS services) and visualize these using OpenLayers and d3.js. Also, he will demo a number of platforms -such as MapBox, CartoDB, FeatureServer, and the OpenGeo Suite- to publish your own maps (tiled or WFS) online.

  • Drinks

Food and drinks are sponsored by HKV Consultants (http://www.hkv.nl), a consultancy company in the area of water and flood risk management.
