The Plough Storytelling Circle is back! We have a new time - the first Thursday evening of every month - and a new venue - the beautiful St Anne's Chapel in Barnstaple.
We are a lively and supportive forum for the telling of stories, whether those are folk tales, mythology, modern or personal stories, all told in the traditional way - from memory.
We welcome anyone and everyone to tell a tale or just to listen and we also enjoy occasional poetry and music, as long as it is story-based.
So whether you are new to storytelling or have been doing it for years, please come and join us for an evening of wonders. (Incredible value too at £2 including refreshments!)

This is the third of a series of Wild Stories events on Dartmoor in the summer of 2025: we aim to showcase amazing storytelling in extraordinary places. It is hosted jointly by Dartmoor Storytellers and Moor Barton Wilding.

Age suitability 14+ (all under 16s must be accompanied by an adult).

This event will be in the woods, held outdoors around the fire under the shelter of White Deer Lodge at Moor Barton. Come prepared for the outdoors with suitable clothing and footwear. Refreshments will be available, and there are compost toilets. You can park nearby; there is a short walk to the venue, with an earth path which can be uneven underfoot.

Details of how to get to the site, and what to bring, will be sent through to all ticket holders near to the date of the event.

Moor Barton Wilding CIC is a 120 acre project on the north east shoulder of Dartmoor dedicated to rewilding land and people. The land is made up of a mosaic of ecologically rich habitats - including wood pasture, hazel coppice, transitional edge and wildflower glades, closed canopy woodland, wetland, veteran trees and conifer woodland - and is a key site on Dartmoor for species reintroduction. Believing that humans are part of nature with a key role to play in restoring our ecological systems, Moor Barton engages communities near and far, offering many opportunities to learn about and get involved in different aspects of rewilding. https://www.moorbarton.org/

Exeter Storyclub is on the second Wednesday of the month (save in exceptional circumstances and sometimes we don't meet in July or August if everyone is away). A supportive gathering to try out new pieces or simply to relax and listen to spoken storytelling at its best.
We meet at The Cowick Barton, 121 Cowick Ln, Exeter EX2 9HF

There is a 15 minute maximum length for stories/music and if anyone goes over that, they will incur the Harmonica of Doom! :) As we love to get everyone’s oral stories in. Two-parters can be arranged, just let us know! All stories must be from memory. No reading aloud allowed. Support the oral tradition :) . All welcome.
