Legacy to IaC

Our presenter is Scott Murray, currently a Senior Engineer at Zip, focussing largely on Devops and increasing team speed. Throughout his career, he's worked on a wide variety of problems and architectures, ranging from on-premise legacy software through to shiny cloud micro-services. A large focus in recent years has been around internal pipelines, developer workflows, and cloud infrastructure, ensuring that these can scale over time without hindering team speed.

Scott will present a journey from legacy hand-crafted cloud infrastructure to the full Terraform dream!

Whether you have a strong passion for infra-as-code, on the fence about the whole idea, or maybe you live the on-going nightmare of inconsistent cloud environments riddled with mysteries and time-bombs, then this is the presentation for you!

Here at Zip, I’ve had the opportunity to break down the existing, chaotic, cloud infrastructure and rebuild it with new and shiny wheels (Terraform!). I’ll be presenting the entire process from the decisions we made, technical details about terraform and the corresponding pipelines, the mistakes we made along the way, and ultimately, the overall fruit we’ve been able to harvest!

This will be my debut meetup presentation! So aside from shaky hands and a nervous voice, I hope it’ll be insightful and entertaining!
