Join us for another exciting meetup at the TrueFullstaq office! This time, we’re thrilled to host a special guest, Selçuk Şaşoğlu will join us in Amsterdam to tell that it is okay to build a monolith, even in a serverless environment and our own Tibo Beijen will explain how to reduce cognitive load in pull requests. Don’t miss this engaging evening of tech and career stories!
Agenda:
- 17:30 – 18:00: Arrival & light dinner
- 18:00 – 18:15: Brief welcome
- 18:15 – 18:45: Tibo
- 18:45 – 19:15: Selçuk
- 19:15 – 20:30: Closing drinks
Part 1: Pull requests that make a DIFFerence
When dealing with Infra-as-code changes, we typically have destructive superpowers: That little name change that bubbled down to some overlooked child module, suddenly replaced our security group. Apparently. It could have been our database though…Either we become slow and risk averse, or pressure wins and we become error-prone. A bit of distraction and bad timing do the rest. How can we maximize the effectiveness of our primary means of collaboration: The pull request? How can we, designers, owners, and guardians of our systems, allow other teams to collaborate, effectively unblocking them? This talk is about putting up guardrails instead of gates. About reducing blast likeliness instead of blast radius.
Part 2: Selçuk
In this talk, we explore why a Serverless Modular Monolith (SMM) is a great starting point for serverless applications. Drawing inspiration from Evolutionary Architecture principles, we discuss the limitations of both monoliths and microservices in early-stage projects. Instead, SMM offers a sweet spot: modular design with low cognitive load, high cohesion. It enables smooth experimentation, scalability, and paves the way for future evolution into microservices when the time is right.
