Bill Bejeck @ Confluent - Kafka Top Ten Configurations

Kafka is a highly configurable distributed streaming platform. But not all configurations are created equal. Whether it's the broker, topics, or client configuration, some are critical for optimal performance. Some settings are only relevant when you need to tweak Kafka's behavior to meet specific business needs. While other configurations really should not be changed unless you have a valid reason to do so.

In this talk, we'll go over the top configurations for robust Kafka performance. More importantly, we'll discuss the behavior behind the settings, why you want to pay attention to them, and what can expect by setting these configurations.

We'll cover a mix of broker, topic, and client configurations.

About Bill:
Bill has been a software engineer for over 15 years. Currently, he is working at Confluent as an engineer on the streams team. He regularly contributed to Kafka Streams before starting with Confluent and continues to do so in his work today. Before Confluent, he worked on various ingest applications as a U.S. Government contractor using distributed software such as Apache Kafka, Spark and Hadoop.
