Ceci n’est pas une pipe: The universe in a nUtNix shell
Drowning in a sea of bloated GUI applications? Working on various systems and stacks? There is true power and efficiency hidden within your terminal that mostly comes shipped with your machine? This presentation unlocks a few secrets of essential command-line tools, demonstrating how "less" truly is "more" in the world of computing.
Leave the Bloatware Behind and find focus:

  • Embrace the CLI: Discover a treasure trove of powerful command-line utilities already pre-installed on your Unix system. Master tools like less, pipes, awk, grep, sed, and bash aliases to achieve complex tasks with elegant simplicity.
  • No More Click-Frenzies: Harness the power of fuzzy finders like fzf. Locate files, processes, and information instantly with lightning-fast, error-tolerant searches, eliminating the need for endless clicking and make it reproducible.
  • Bash Aliasing for Speed: Craft your own command shortcuts. Simplify repetitive tasks, personalise your workflow, and boost your productivity with custom shell aliases.
  • Git Like a Pro: Go beyond the basics of commit and push. Explore hidden Git gems to navigate your project history, manage branches efficiently, and collaborate seamlessly with your team.

Whether you're die-hard terminal user or a curious newcomer, this presentation welcomes you. Learn through practical demonstrations and real-world use cases how a few simple tricks can do the magic.

Moritz Schlichting - My journey has taken me across the software development landscape, exploring front-end, back-end, Data Science, DevOps, and even mobile development. One theme remained throughout, the simplicity and power of Unix and the open-source community. I’m here to share some curiosities, experiences, and delve into the beauty of "less is more”.

Nixifying your provisioning problems with Nix and OpenTofu
The following scenario is all too common. You've just started working on a new feature, and you did so use the newest version of a OpenTofu/Terraform provider. Or maybe you felt adventurous and even decided to bump a minor version of OpenTofu/Terraform itself! Life is great, everything is working well. But now, a colleague asks you to pair program on a bug he's been having on the main branch. And suddenly, you get the weirdest errors and bugs. Fast-forward a few hours, you figure out you're still using a newer version of some provider, roll-back, and fixed. Nix makes this scenario almost a non-issue. Let Bryan show you how you can get started by showing Nix in a practical and pragmatic way.

Bryan Honof is a software engineer at Flox, working on bringing the powers of Nix into the world. He's had a focus on DevOps and SRE for the last ~5 years, and is trying to find both technical and social solutions to problems in the industry. In his spare time, he likes to create music, of the heavy variety. Try to catch him, but be warned, once you get him talking, he most likely won't stop.
