📄 Session Abstract:
Using a UI component framework can be frustrating. Even the best UI component frameworks often fall short of meeting your customer’s unique needs. Sooner or later you start fighting the framework. UI component frameworks are supposed to reduce effort, and initially, they do. But more often than not, they backfire in the long run, when it's too late to switch. Meanwhile, in 2025, HTML and CSS have become incredibly powerful. Do you really need a full-blown UI framework? In many cases, you're better off combining native HTML with a flexible and expressive CSS utility framework like Tailwind.

In the first half of this talk, I’ll show you how to build beautiful applications with minimal effort and no unnecessary abstraction. That said, sometimes the customer insists on building a custom UI component framework—or you might feel tempted to roll your own to avoid writing the same boilerplate over and over again. In the second half, I’ll walk you through how to avoid the pitfalls I've encountered myself, so you don’t have to repeat my mistakes. While this part uses Angular examples, the concepts apply equally well to React or Vue.js.

🙋 Speaker:
Stephan is working as a principal consultant at valantic STI. Most of the time he's programming, usually in TypeScript, Python or Java, but he's also offering workshops and trainings for Angular, Spring, and MicroServices. Even his blog - https://www.beyondjava.net - is an Angular application. He's also the author of the open source framework ngx-extended-pdf-viewer.
