DevOps Manchester 35: Scaling Whilst Sleeping Soundly
Details
Announcing our next event on Thursday 2 May! Our venue for this edition plus food and drink are provided thanks to the kind support of Kraken.
For our talk this month, Daniel Lo joins us to talk about Sleeping Soundly at 500,000 Requests Per Second. Ever wondered how you can scale your applications and still get a good night's sleep?
We'll have plenty of time for questions and discussion, so whether you've got your own war stories or this is a problem you're dreaming of having in the future, you'll have a chance to contribute your own thoughts and experiences.
After the talk, we’ll be continuing our popular ‘lean coffee’ discussion groups.

Talk Synopsis
Scaling is a great problem to have, it shows your application is successful, but this success can be short lived if you don't know how to really scale.
This talk will focus on both proactive and reactive scenarios.
Preemptive measures:
- Collect quality data from everything relevant and monitor it regularly.
- Load and Stress testing in CI.
- Clear and Clean Alerts.
Unexpected problems encountered:
- Sporadic Traffic where autoscaling does not kick in quick enough
- Health Checks and Auto Healing false positives
- Cross Team communications
