DevOps & Platform Engineering MeetUp June 2024

Details
Hey Everyone!
We are excited to announce that our next DevOps & Platform Engineering MeetUp will be taking place on Wednesday June 26th and we are inviting you to join us!
We will have new speakers giving their unique talks on all things DevOps.
With the success of our last event, we will be hosting the next one in the same location, The Academy building on Pearse St, Dublin 2.
It will be another informative evening, featuring talks by expert speakers on the latest trends in cloud computing and virtualization, along with best practices in DevOps and Platform Engineering.
It is a great opportunity to meet new professionals in your field, collaborate and share wisdom and hopefully learn something new!
Where: The Academy, 42 Pearse St, Dublin, D02 YX88
When: Wednesday June 26th from 6:00pm
Agenda for the evening...
There will be two guest speakers on the night, each giving their own talk on their DevOps & Platform Engineering related topic. Each speaker will have about 20 - 30 minutes and will have a Q&A at the end. Once the talks are finished, we can move out to the Lookout terrace which has 360 views of Dublin’s city skyline, where we will have some food and drinks and plenty of time for networking with everyone and taking in the views.
Speaker 1: James Belchamber
James is an engineer with over 15 years of experience, from Linux Systems Administration through to Platform Engineering. He still considers DevOps to be a philosophy (not a job title), and will probably die on that hill. Currently he is leading an observability transformation project for a major airline.
Topic: "Getting started with Distributed Tracing"
"Observability" has become a must-have for many businesses, and in response many monitoring companies have simply rebranded their offering as "observability". But simply re-badging logs and metrics avoids an exciting innovation - distributed tracing.
James's talk will give an introduction to traces and go through the key terminology, before spinning up a demo and leveraging auto-instrumentation to introduce distributed tracing to an app with no changes to the app's code.
Speaker 2: Ju Park
Topic: Transitioning into Site Reliability Engineering
Join us for a talk from Ju Park, an SRE Lead in IBM who started her career in software engineering. Ju will be talking through her journey into Site Reliability Engineering. She will share how she adapted software engineering cultures, methodologies, and automation into her role. Learn about her experiences, the challenges she faced, and the solutions she implemented in the field of site reliability engineering.
