#1 Derik Evangelista - Principal Software Engineer @ Syntasso
Derik is a former Engineering Manager at both Grafana Labs and VMware, who is an experienced Software Engineer who has been building platforms for over 15 years.
Title: Building compelling Platforms on Kubernetes
Kubernetes is everywhere. Many organisations are leveraging it to deliver their internal platforms. However, too often the teams using these platforms find themselves dragged down into wrangling commodity infrastructure components instead of focusing on building the differentiated products that drive the revenue. This is the "Platform Gap".
In this talk, Derik will show how proper platform engineering can help
organizations to cross that gap and build compelling platforms on top of Kubernetes, allowing for application developers to stay focused on delivering value to their customers.
#2 - Steve Wade - Cloud Native Consultant and Trainer
Steve Wade was one of the founding engineers at KSOC, a Kubernetes security startup. Before this, Steve held Platform leadership roles at UnderWrite Me and Mettle. During these roles, he leveraged the concept of GitOps to provide self-service platforms to developers. He has also provided Kubernetes consultancy and training worldwide as a Consultant at Apprenda. Steve has held leadership roles in many verticals, including real estate, gaming, and the UK parliament. Steve has a BSc in Computer Science and is passionate about cloud-native software development and distributed computing.
Title: The Unanswerable Question
When Steve arrived at a financial services client site he was asked a question by senior management which he and his team could not answer. This talk will explain how GitOps has enabled them to be able to answer it. Steve will talk about the lessons learnt along the way, the tooling (in particular Kubernetes), and processes he has helped put in place and what is left to do to complete the journey.
Join us to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Kubernetes!
