Quarkus Build Day: Building Production-Ready Microservices
Join us for an evening of learning, networking, and hands-on engineering as we explore how to build production-ready Java microservices with Quarkus. We'll kick off the evening with dinner and networking, to connect with fellow engineers and share experiences. Followed by a opening talk from John Shaw, who’ll discuss the role of modern cloud-native development within Lloyds Banking Group’s engineering landscape. The event will be a hands-on build workshop, where participants will work through a practical Quarkus application while learning key concepts such as REST APIs, persistence, security, containerisation, and production-ready development practices.
To support attendees of all experience levels, Beginner Packs will be available throughout the evening, allowing participants to learn at their own pace and choose a path that best suits their experience. Whether you're completely new to Quarkus or looking to expand your cloud-native development skills, you'll leave with practical experience and a better understanding of how modern Java services are designed, built, and prepared for production environments.

Prerequisites:
Before you start, make sure you have:

• Java 17+ — check with java -version
• Docker & Docker Compose — check with docker --version
• Gradle 9.x (or use the wrapper — recommended)
• Your IDE of choice (IntelliJ IDEA has excellent Quarkus support)
• openssl available in your terminal
