Judit Ördög-Andrási (Emarsys): Case Study - The Real Black Friday aka How To Scale an Unscalable Service

Finding the balance between scalability and shipping features is truly a form of art. What happens when you don’t take proper care of the scaling of a system for 6 months that doubles its user base in the meantime? You’ll learn how our team re-architected a critical Ruby on Rails service in our email marketing system to enable reliable operation after massively increased traffic hit us at 2016’s Black Friday. I’ll explain how clean code and the twelve-factor app methodology matter and how you can pay your technical debt on a critical legacy system in incremental steps without messing up the user experience.

Gabor Veszi (ex-Facebook): Facebook work experience
I plan to talk about what I've learned at Facebook about how to maximize your impact. Some simple principles that help you even at big scale (team and system size). The talk will be short and I plan to leave most of the time for Q&A. I'm happy to talk about what editor Facebook engineers use if this is what you most care about.

Some things to remember:

• We always welcome talk proposals! Please submit your talk on Slack ( https://slackinvite.me/to/budapestdevopsmeetup ) or via this form: https://goo.gl/6OEBRJ .

• If you have something you'd like to hear about, please let us know via Slack, or the other form: https://goo.gl/DVjHju
