NixOS: Functional Programming for Your Operating System
What if your entire operating system, including every package, configuration file, and service, could be defined as the output of a pure function?
Join DevOpsDSM on Wednesday, December 2nd, as Matt Morrison from Source Allies introduces NixOS and explores how ideas from functional programming can change the way we configure, manage, and maintain operating systems.
Traditional Linux environments can come with familiar frustrations, including conflicting dependencies, inconsistent configurations, unexpected issues after upgrades, and the classic "works on my machine" problem. NixOS takes a different approach by treating system configuration as code and applying three key functional programming concepts:
Declarative configuration, Immutability, and Determinism.
Matthew will demonstrate these concepts by building a real NixOS system live and showing how atomic rollbacks allow you to return to a previous working configuration.
