Automating DevOps - What's Next?

For our March 2023 face-to-face event we will be bringing together two powerhouses of the North East England tech scene as DevOps North East (D.O.N.E.) and Tech on the Tyne (T.O.T.T.) come together at the new Newcastle office of Credera at the Catalyst, Newcastle Helix, Bath Lane, Newcastle to answer the question "Automating DevOps - What's next?".

Meet from 6:00pm on Wednesday 15th March for talks at 6:30pm. As usual there will be pizza, drinks and great conversation....thanks very much to Reed for their support.

Talk 1 - Priyanka Baranwal will talk about DevOps automation with GitOps with Gitlab-CI

  • What is GitOps?
  • Principals and benefits of GitOps
  • Automation of infrastructure following GitOps practices
  • A demo of CICD with gitlab-ci for multi environment infrastructure provisioning

Priyanka is currently working as a DevOps Engineer at Credera, Newcastle.
With nearly 10 years of experience in IT industry, she started her career in IT operations with public sector where she specialised in various aspects of application and infrastructure support, Incident/problem management, and oversaw many production releases.
She made her transition into DevOps space over 5 years ago and since then she has liaised with clients across multiple domains such as Retail Merchandising, Banking, Utility and public sector.
With deep understanding of Agile methodologies, Configuration, Build, Release Management and Quality Assurance, she has helped delivered numerous end to end solutions for microservices and serverless applications on cloud platform. Her expertise includes both cloud native and cloud agnostic tools like terraform, CDK, Ansible, packer, Jenkins, gitlab-ci, container orchestration with ECS and kubernates and so forth. She loves adapting to newer technologies and always strives to work towards a client’s satisfaction.

Talk 2 - Osanda Gunasena will discuss creating a self-service cloud infrastructure

What next? Well Credera have carried out some exciting work for their clients, so we aim to discuss one such case where we enabled the members of the organisation to create/mange the organisation's cloud resources without needing to delegate explicit organisation wide permissions. This Self-service infrastructure was automated and had various checks and validation in place to ensure organisation wide security compliance.

Osanda Gunasena is a software engineer who recently joined Credera in Newcastle. He is member of the software engineering practice but excited about how well engineered DevOps systems can facilitate smoother SDLC. He is motivated by challenging problems and making an impact with his work. He believes that collaboration and creativity are key elements in an engineer’s growth. In that spirit, he is keen to share some of the collective DevOps insight accrued at Credera.
