.NET Core: Porting a Production Web Service

Details

Robert Hargreaves (@robertharg) will be walking us through his experience of attempting to migrate a production web service to .NET Core. We'll be exploring:

  • What is .NET Core?
  • Why migrate an application to .NET Core?
  • Steps involved and challenges to the process
  • (Most importantly) Is it production ready?

Aidan Twomey (@aidan2mey) will be giving us a lightning talk on his thoughts from reading Your code as a crime scene (https://pragprog.com/book/atcrime/your-code-as-a-crime-scene).

About Rob

Rob is a developer in the Core Platform team at 7digital. Aside from his day-to-day job of getting streaming media from A-to-B, he's been looking at ways to reduce complexity in how we get code into production.

About Aidan

Aidan has been developing on the Microsoft stack for 20 years, starting on VB4, struggling with Visual C++, building enterprise applications with C# and having fun with F#. He has worked in media research, banking and now digital music as a member of the Core Technology team at 7digital.

Doors open at 6pm and the talk starts promptly at 6:30pm
