In the first few months of 2016, our network was subjected to several seemingly unrelated DDoS attacks launched against various clients. Continuing our Tales from the Ops side series, these stream of events robbed us of our sleep, time, and money, and included extortion letters, bitcoin, and even encounters with the FBI.

One of the first questions people ask when starting to use Redux (myself included) is "Where do I put my API calls?" The next question is "How do I dispatch the results of these API calls?"
After a bit of research, the real question that you're probably asking is, why are there so many different ways to handle async in Redux?
This talk is partly the story of handling async in JavaScript - from callbacks, to promises, to observables, to generators, to async/await - and partly the story of async action middleware in Redux. It will examine async middleware in terms of readability, testability, and learnability.

As a Software Engineer at Toronto-based product studio TWG, Nicole Chung works with Node.js, React, and Redux to build fast and efficient user interfaces. When she’s not at work, she’s a full-stack JavaScript mentor at HackerYou. In previous roles, she’s been on a few never-ending projects, like a self serve telco platform, where she developed for web, iOS, and Android.
