BIG EVENT:

Dear Gregory,

Thank you for stopping by our booth to meet us at Earth Fair last weekend!

SanDiego350, an all-volunteer local organization, believes that to get real, strong action on climate change we need to grow the climate movement to the point where we’re a force to be reckoned with - and that each of us has a role in that movement.

We educate the public, advocate for climate-friendly local policies, hold rallies, get media coverage of climate, and train climate leaders. We work to stop the Keystone Pipeline, grow renewables, ban fracking, and urge funds to divest from fossil fuels.

We have a bunch of events in May (the best introduction to our work - with lots of time to ask questions - is the "Intro Chat" on May 15). We hope you can join us!

Please visit our website, & check us out on facebooktwitter, & google+ to stay in touch!

OBAMA in SD: NO Keystone Pipeline: Thurs, May 8th, 10AM
President Obama will be in La Jolla for a lunchtime fundraiser May 8. We'll be nearby to show him San Diegans do not want the Keystone Pipeline approved (or the Trans-Pacific Partnership!). At the corner of Torrey Pines Rd. & Dunaway Drive, La Jolla, CA 92037. 10am-2pm, come by when you can. INFO / RSVP Facebook

SanDiego350 INTRO CHAT: Thursday, May 15th, 6:00pm
Are you considering becoming an SD350 member? Learn more about our organization and activities in a welcoming setting. Meet members, ask questions, and explore opportunities for getting involved. At 4429 New Hampshire Street, San Diego, CA 92116.INFO / RSVP

SanDiego350 Monthly Membership Meeting: Tues, May 20th  6:45 PM
A great way to learn what SanDiego350.org is working on, how you can get involved, and to meet like-minded climate activists. At the La Jolla Quaker Meetinghouse, 7380 Eads Ave, San Diego, CA 92037. 6:45-8:15pm. INFO

FRACKING HEARING: Wednesday, May 28th, 9 am
Supervisor Dave Roberts is organizing a public workshop, including a panel of experts, to explore the impacts for San Diegans of fracking in California. We need big turn out to raise concerns about the effects on climate change and water. INFO / RSVP

Dear Friends:
I am so pleased to be able to announce today, during Women's History Month, that I have earned the endorsement of a number of well respected womens organizations.  Planned Parenthood Action Fund, EMILY’s list, Women’s Campaign Fund, Run Women Run, National Womens Political Caucus and the California National Organization For Women have all endorsed my campaign for San Diego City Council.

We're all in this danger together.

Radioactive nuclear waste stored at the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant will be a constant threat as long as it stays there, especially as it is situated in a seismically active area next to our coastline. I just took action to tell Edison to put safety ahead of profits at the San Onofre nuclear plant as they plan how to managethis nuclear waste. Please sign the petition to them to include independent nuclear experts in their decision panels about waste disposal atthe plant: http://www.credomobilize.com/petitions/tell-edison-to-listen-to-independent-nuclear-experts-on-decommissioning-san-onofre?sp_ref=37493550.4.7333.e.0.2&source=mailto_sp

Please forward this message to anyone else who is in danger due to proximity to the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant. They may also like the opportunity to voice an opinion.

★ ★ ★   #2 B. I will sign your petition and forward it.  I am a straight (un-crocked?)  man who was a Cub Scout (Wolf, Bear & Lion) and Sea Scout, Seaman 1st Class in the 1950s.
Solidarity,
Fred Lonidier
The Boy Scouts just fired troop leader Geoff McGrath because he's gay. I'm calling on Amazon to suspend its funding of the Boy Scouts until this discrimination stops.
Fred -
My name is Pascal Tessier, and I am the first official openly gay Eagle Scout since the Boy Scouts ended their ban against kids like me. The day I got my Eagle award was one of the proudest of my life, and it happened because of a year of hard campaigning with Scouts for Equality to convince the Boy Scouts to accept openly gay scouts.
But now the Boy Scouts are back to their old discrimination -- they just fired a troop leader in Seattle because he's gay.
Geoff McGrath exemplifies everything the Boy Scouts are supposed to stand for. He's an Eagle Scout, and he worked with a local church to start a Cub Scout pack and a Boy Scout troop for underprivileged kids in Seattle. Geoff is a husband and a community leader. He also happens to be gay. So the Boy Scouts fired him.
Last year, we were successful in pressuring the Boy Scouts to accept openly gay scouts by convincing the BSA's corporate sponsors to pause their funding until the discrimination stopped. I am an Eagle Scout today because this tactic protected me. Now it's time to do the same to protect openly gay leaders like Geoff.
That's why I started a petition asking Amazon -- a new corporate sponsor of the BSA that's also headquartered in Seattle -- to suspend its funding of the BSA until openly gay leaders are allowed. Please click here to sign my petition.

★ # 4.   Subject: A crucial hearing is taking place in the CA Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday, May 5.
The subject is SB1272, a bill which would  would place a question on the California ballot in November asking voters whether Congress should propose an Amendment to the Constitution overturning Citizens United. As you undoubtedly know, PDA has endorsed existing federal legislation in the House and Senate. This ballot initiative would help move that legislation forward! YOUR help is needed, and there is no time to lose! SB1272 has successfully passed out of the Elections and Constitutional Amendments Committee, and all 4 committee members who voted yes are now Cosponsors of the bill! Now we must urge members of the Senate Appropriations Committee to vote yes on this bill in the hearing Monday. Only then can the bill make it to the Senate floor. Here is what you can do: 1. The Pen has set up a one-click fax action directed to all members of the Appropriations Committee at: Pass SB1272 Action Page Here. You simply fill out the form and hit "Send Message". 2. Call all the members of the Appropriations Committee and ask them to support SB1272 and pass it through committee. (NOTE: please be sure to indicate if you are one of the senator’s constituents as constituent calls always carry more weight.) Since time is so short, leave a voicemail message urging a yes vote for SB1272 over the weekend if you cannot call first thing Monday morning. Members of the Committee and their phone numbers are: Kevin de Leon, Chair (D) (916)[masked] Mimi Walters, Vice Chair (R) (916)[masked] Ted Gaines (R) (916)[masked] Jerry Hill (D) (916)[masked] Ricardo Lara (D) (916)[masked] Alex Padilla (D) (916)[masked] (Thank him for cosponsoring and urge his yes vote in committee.) **Co-author of bill** Darrell Steinberg (D) (916)[masked] 3. Finally, please go to the top of this email and click to share on Facebook or Twitter to urge your friends to do the same. Thank you for all you do. In solidarity, Judy Hess, California State Co-Coordinator and Russell Greene, Leader, PDA San Fernando Valley Chapter Date: May 3,[masked]:15:06 AM PDT
