Let's Talk Chicken Over Chicken: Field Trip

Details

Greetings all! This month the ITP Meetup invites all Backyard Poultry Meetup members to join us on a tour of Lee and Ginny Penney's poultry paradise in Douglasville. Meet their chickens, ducks, turkeys, Guineas and peacocks, hear about their nine years of poultry-keeping and enjoy the chance to purchase some new members for your flock. In Lee's own words:

"Hello Everyone,

My name is Lee Penny and my wife is Ginny Penny. We are animal loving people of just about anything living and breathing. Mainly chickens, ducks, geese and Guineas and now…turkeys!

This is how our adventure started: one day we were talking about getting some ducks for our pond and after searching ads, we set out to go pick up some ducks, but when we arrived there we saw lots of ducks, geese and CHICKENS. Of course we were excited and in talking with the nice folks, we learned that taking care of chickens was easy. Also, we thought a few “yard birds” would be fun to have around—so we said—Why Not! AND THAT’S HOW WE GOT STARTED!

We had some chickens-YEAH. Then we got our first egg-OH BOY. And since we had a rooster in the bunch—well, that’s when we got our 1st “Hovabator” and the hatching began. There’s nothing cuter than baby chicks, our love of the chickens just kept growing and growing. Over the past 9 years our family has expanded: along with the chickens we now have ducks, geese, Guineas, peacocks and turkeys. We have had several different breeds of chickens over the years. Once we discover new breeds, we have to sell some of the current ones to make room for the new ones. That’s where we are at this time, so if you are looking for chickens we may have just what you need.

We invite you to come visit, enjoy and learn. So don’t come empty handed—bring a cage or two! Below is a list of our breeders. Indian blue peacocks, ducks (Mallard, Rouen, Muscovy), geese (Toulouse, White Embdem, Pilgrim), chickens: Easter Egger, Red Dominique, English Cochin, Coronation Sussex, Lavender Orpington, Penedesenca, RIR - Rose Comb).

If you are interested in buying certain breeds when you come out, give us a call early on 404-867-4247 and we see what’s possible for your visit."
