Diversity vs. Divisiveness?

Details
Topic - Diversity vs. Divisiveness?
Presenter - Karen
The world that we share is so culturally diverse that many factions and belief systems are diametrical opposites.
While we profess to value freedom of expression, there inevitably comes a point when this impinges on cultural norms, common sense or otherwise acceptable behavior.
We elevate the importance of the individual to seek fulfillment or to pursue happiness, however only as long as the goal is meritorious, doesn’t harm others and only if equal opportunity is extended to all.
These values prevail in democratic societies. However as cultural diversity is increasing, it seems divisiveness is growing.
Meeting Format:
Each meeting has a single topic which is introduced by the person who came up with it. He/she introduces the topic by posting prior to the meeting (above) and presenting it for up to 15 min at the start of the meeting. Following this introduction, we take turns sharing points of view related to the topic. Everyone who wants to is encouraged to speak. The Group is self-monitoring.
The meeting starts at 2 pm and ends no later than 4:15 pm. At about 3:45 we will begin closing round where we take turns making final comments, stating what we heard or what we learned during the meeting.
Note**- Diversity of perspective and opposing points of view are frequently expressed. The right of each person to express her/his point of view, freedom of thought and expression are valued greatly.
