🍁 A Taste of Autumn in Nara: Sake, Hiking & Local Markets 🍶🍊
Join us for a lovely autumn day in Nara! We’ll visit Omiwa Shrine, one of Japan’s oldest shrines, during its annual Sake Festival, then hike along the Yamanobe-no-Michi, believed to be Japan’s oldest road. Enjoy the beautiful countryside scenery and historic sites along the way, with a fun stop at local self-service farm stands to discover seasonal produce at great prices!
🍶 Visit Omiwa Shrine’s Sake Festival
Omiwa Shrine is deeply connected to the history of sake brewing. Each year, sake brewers from across Japan gather here to pray for a safe and successful brewing season.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience the shrine’s special connection with sake and enjoy the solemn atmosphere of the festival.
And who knows? We might even get to enjoy a complimentary cup of sake! 🍶 However, this has not been confirmed, so it’s best to treat it as a little bonus if it happens! 😊
🥾 Hike Along the Yamanobe-no-Michi
After visiting the shrine, we’ll head north along the scenic Yamanobe-no-Michi, one of Japan’s oldest roads, enjoying the countryside along the way.
🍊 Discover Local Farm Stands
We’ll stop at small, self-service roadside stands selling local produce. You might find seasonal treats like mandarins and persimmons, as well as fresh vegetables, often at very reasonable prices. Bring some cash and small change if you’d like to buy something!
