When precision sensors meet wonky real life on a farm, not everything goes as smoothly as this shiny suited IT consultant might have hoped. Mark Stanley will talk about his experiences implementing LoRaWAN sensors on a farm in North Wales, and where improvements are needed to make large scale deployment viable.
Biography:
Mark Stanley is co-initiator of The Things Network Reading, one of the first UK communities to embrace TTN in 2015. Through his business Thingitude, Mark has advised, trained and developed IoT solutions for Local Authorities, central and devolved government, and variety of businesses across the UK. Through Digital Catapult’s Things Connected programme, Mark has helped around 40 innovative businesses move their LPWAN offerings closer to market readiness.
From Farm to Fork: how agri-tech is revolutionising food production presented by Laura Bouvet (@Laura_AgriTech)
Ever thought of all the technology that goes on behind growing and producing the food we eat? From assisting decision-making on-farm to optimising traceability in the food supply chain, technological innovations are providing solutions to the challenges faced by the agri-food sector. I will share with you examples of where AI, machine-learning and robotics are making a difference and how Agri-Tech East is catalysing collaborations and multidisciplinary in this diverse and ever-changing ecosystem.
Biography
Laura Bouvet joined Agri-Tech East in 2018 as Knowledge & Innovation Facilitator. She works with progressive farmers to support the implementation of new technologies. In partnership with the Agriculture and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB), she also delivers knowledge exchange for the potatoes sector. Always interested in contributing to the application of research for solving real world problems, she investigated the role of cereals genetics for improving disease resistance during her PhD and co-wrote a business plan for the commercialisation of MRI technologies for assessing internal defects of fruit and veg during her Masters.
