#44 - Role of AI and IoT in Smart Grids and Transportation

Details
Event Announcement: Building Digital Trust for Smart Grids and Intelligent Transportation Systems
📅 Date: March 10th, 2025
🕖 Time: 19:00 CET | 1300 ET | 1000 PT
As we step into a future shaped by smart grids and intelligent transportation systems, ensuring digital trust has become a pivotal challenge. These advanced technologies optimize energy distribution, traffic management, and resource allocation, but their widespread adoption hinges on the confidence of citizens and stakeholders. From secure data sharing to user-controlled digital identities, building robust and fair systems is essential to unlock the full potential of these innovations.
Join us for an engaging roundtable discussion with leading experts in digital energy, sustainable finance, and secure digital identities:
### Speakers
Prof. Dr. Jens Strüker
A leading researcher and academic, Jens serves as Professor of Digital Energy Management at the University of Bayreuth and Director of the Fraunhofer Blockchain Lab. His groundbreaking work on self-sovereign identity (SSI), distributed ledger technologies (DLTs), and zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) is transforming how decentralized energy systems operate securely and sustainably.
Michael Schäfer
Managing Director of DRM Datenraum Mobilität GmbH, Michael has over 35 years of experience in digital and data economy, enterprise architecture, and industrial IoT. As an IDSA Ambassador and GAIA-X Fellow, he has been at the forefront of building scalable data ecosystems for intelligent mobility solutions across Europe.
Sebastiaan Coppenholle
Sebastiaan has been working for the German/Belgian transmission system operator, Elia Group, since 2021. As point of contact for the domain of markets he has been focusing on integrating flexibility from decentralized flexible assets (heat pumps, electric vehicles, solar panels,…). He has been working on topics such as data spaces and digital identities, trying to increase the trust and facilitate the data transfers with these new decentralized devices which will need to be taken up into our grids.
### Moderator
Michael Shea
Bringing his own expertise to the table, Michael will guide the conversation, ensuring a lively and insightful discussion that explores the intersection of technology, trust, and innovation.
Whether you're a professional in technology, energy, or mobility, or simply curious about the future of digital trust in interconnected systems, this event is for you!
