Images as Research Data (Mic Drop #13)

How can we use images in our research in a more meaningful way?

The use of images within research and artistic research has a long history. How can you look at pictures and images in different ways? How can you retrieve new knowledge from photos and photo collections? And how can digital photos and the sharing of digital photos generate reflection on a certain topic? In today's society, the act of sharing pictures has become a social medium in itself. In what ways can photos help us in our own research and creative practice?

Marije ten Brink is a lecturer at Communications and Media Design at the Amsterdam University of Aplied Sciences. As a PhD researcher, she is involved in the Citizen Data Lab and also has her own design practice Brinka (www.brinka.nl).
