What we’re about

The Decentralized Identity Interop Profile (DIIP) is an interoperability initiative aiming broad adoption of SSI (self sovereign identity) and avoiding "island SSI projects". By agreeing on a minimum set of interop specifications and collaborating on the implementation and evaluation of international open standards and development of re-usable open source components.

DIIP was initiated by the Dutch Blockchain Coalition (DBC) and DBC partners Sphereon, Animo and TNO but open and re-usable by anybody. One of the objectives is evaluating and improving the specifications in the European Digital Wallet architecture and reference framework (DIIP covers a subset of the EUDI wallet ARF, the complete ARF is too broad to ensure interoperability). It aims at leveraging and contributing to other national and international initiatives like EDI Stelsel NL, W3C, DIF, Gaia-X, ID Union, EBSI, Open Wallet Foundation etc. Consider it a pragmatic, proactive community initiative.

DIIP is based on an agreed minimum set of "chosen specifications" to ensure interoperability. Each implementation may support additional specifications on top of the minimum. The DIIP specifications will be reviewed on a regular basis and may be extended/changed based on the experience from the real world implementations.

DIIP is an open initiative but there is no formal governance in place (yet). In order to allow anybody to participate and to inform and update each other on progress and next steps, regular meetups are being organised. The meetups are open to everybody. They focus on interoperability between different initiatives, the collaborative development and re-use of open source components and implementation/evaluation of open standards.
